Now it’s time to really blow our own trumpet, as we share a Q&A session with Joseph Hainsworth – Payroll Technician at Revell Ward (and ace cornet player)

Donna would prefer him to stick to payroll processing…
First of all, back to basics – what does the payroll service entail?
On pay day when your money arrives into your bank account, I am the person who calculated it. We receive information from our clients with the information on what they wish to pay the employees. Our first step is to figure out how much Tax, National Insurance, Student loans, Attachment of earnings and Pension contributions need taking from your gross pay leaving the net amount you see in your bank account. We also provide pension contribution uploads to ensure that employees’ pension pots are up to date each payroll period.
Tell us about your career so far.
My first job was on a Sunday in my local golf Pro-Shop, just to earn a little bit of money on a weekend. After finishing college, I had two ideas of the route I would like to take in my career. The first was electrical engineering. I originally got an apprenticeship in this field, however I found that this was not for me. The second idea I had was going into accountancy. I then found the Revell Ward apprenticeship was open for payroll so jumped at the opportunity and have loved my decision ever since.
And how would a typical day look?
My day to day working can vary massively, but on most days you can find me processing new payroll information submitted by our clients, submitting FPS & EPS submissions to HMRC for payrolls that have been finalised and approved, also you can find me uploading the pension contribution details to the pension providers website, and at the end of the day you will find me at the post desk preparing all the mail for the day and sending this out to the clients.
What makes you passionate about your role?
I love working here at Revell Ward, and I am very passionate about what I do. I want to do everything to the highest standards, and to do this you have to enjoy what you do! The thing I enjoy most about payroll is the variety. Each client is different and has individual requirements which means we can offer a really special service.
What do you think are the main benefits clients get from working with the Revell Ward payroll team?
The main benefits of working with Revell Ward are the expertise within our team, peace of mind that the payroll will be completed within the allotted time frame and completed to the highest standards, and also a friendly contact for any queries and questions the client may have.
What three words would you use to sum up the Revell Ward Payroll team?
Efficient, hardworking and friendly
If you weren’t part of the Revell Ward team, what would be your dream job?
My dream job would be a pilot. I have always wanted to experience the feeling of soaring above the clouds – at the controls.
Give us a funny/unusual fact about yourself that no-one would guess…
On Saturdays you can find me on the golf course as they say “Ruining a good walk”. I play off a handicap of 12 and try to play most weeks. I also am a keeper of Discus (no not the sport) fish originating from the Amazon.
