HMRC coding notices are all too often put to one side – we are all guilty.
Don’t fall into this trap, they really are worth a check as HMRC do make mistakes, and the tax owed soon accumulates.
Many people will receive revised notices shortly as their employers file form P11Ds detailing any taxable benefits in kind.
Particular areas to watch out for include:
High Income Child Benefit Charge – if this appears on your code but you have already elected not to receive Child Benefit in the first place.
If you have changed employment, retired or had a change of remuneration / benefits package.
Receive investment income such as property rental income, taxed under self assessment, which has appeared as a deduction in your tax code.
